My favourite moment on Camp 2021 @ Makaraka School (Finlay Park)

Last week our years 5 and 6's went on Camp to Finlay Park to have some fun, and today we were told to write about our most magical favourite moment. My favourite moment at Camp was rafting, this was how it started. We went down on a 20min walk in the boiling hot sun sweating and turning to crisp. When we arrived, everyone rushed to the water to cool off. Then Jo (our instructor) said that we had to choose our teams of three, in my team, there was, Sam, Max Gavin, Rachael, Iyve, Molly and myself. When we started rafting, our team was in first, so I knew we had a good chance at winning. When we got close to the finish line we were still in first and we were BURSTING with excitement. In the end, we ended up becoming the WINNERS of the race, and just before we left on the last day, we earned chocolate for the hard work that we had put into rafting and getting first. All of Camp was REALLY fun but this was the highlight.

Maia Poroaki Blurb (with Miss Moat)

Once upon a time, there was a strong and fierce man named Maia. But for all his greatness he was ungrateful and selfish. He would always make people help plant his hue when the people were doing the most work, during that he was always so lazy not doing any work for Uenuku. But in the end, he realized that he was doing the wrong thing and that he realized he had to be more aware of people around him more then himself. He turned out to be a man that people would always look up to and his legacy carried on for many generations to come. The end.

My Speech 2021

 Kia Ora koutou katoa!

Hi, my name is Max and I am 10 years old.  Today I am going to tell you what one of the most important values to live by is, and why I chose this value.  A lot of people say that honesty is the best policy, however, I believe that patience is the best value to live by.

Patience is essential to daily life and no one can live without it.  Having patience to me means being able to wait calmly especially when you are frustrated - and we have many opportunities in life to practice it.  An example of this is a person's ability to wait for something like lining up and waiting for your turn on a ride.  Having patience means that you can remain calm, even when you have been waiting in line for what feels like forever.  Patience is not about the ability to wait, but the ability to keep a good attitude whilst waiting.  Having more patience can calm your mind and can make you feel more appreciative about yourself.

I googled the word patience and it is defined as being able to tolerate delay, trouble, or suffering without getting angry or upset.  That is a skill that we learn as we get older.  Some of us are able to be patient and some of us struggle with this value. Patience is part of our personality.  Some people have it and some people don’t.  That strategy usually helps out a lot of people trying to become patient and calm. If you practise being calm a lot then over time you will start developing patience.

This value, patience, relates to our school value Kia Maia which means Stand Proud and be proud of who you are because Kia Maia can sometimes mean having a positive attitude and you certainly need a positive attitude to show patience. Another example is when you are not behaving at home - you may hear your parents say be patient, it’s not the end of the world! My mum and dad say that the sooner you learn the act of being patient, the easier and peaceful your life will become.  I know that at school we are taught to be patient and keep going to reach our goals.  This means that if we find a task like maths difficult we still keep trying until we understand - that is what patience looks like to me.

So as you have heard today, the meaning of patience can mean many things and is a big part of our daily lives.  I hope that you enjoyed learning about patience.  Thank you for listening to my speech. Ko te tumanako i pai koe ki te ako mo te manawanui, kia ora ai koe ki te whakarongo ki aku korero!

Finally Freedom

 Finally Freedom:

Finally freedom, on the 8th of September 2021 every single place in New Zealand except Auckland will move down Alert Levels into Level 2. On 9th of September 2021 every single place in New Zealand except Auckland will be back at school and are going back to school when it is near the end of Term 3 which ends on 17th of September. Finally we can go back to school under one condition, none of the parents are allowed to come into school without a Covid Mask. But with Auckland under Alert Level 4, they won't be allowed to go back to school yet and will have to continue with social distancing learning. My prediction is that we will be back in Level 1 in about 2 and a half weeks and Auckland will move down to Level 3 in about 2 weeks.

                            Signed:

Dear Mr. DUTERTE

Here is a letter to the Philippine Government letting them
know how I feel about a dumpsite in a place called Malina
which is called Smokey Mountain which is full of Trash.

Children on a Dumpsite

This is how you would feel as if you were working on a dumpsite.

Please Donate Now!

This here is a poster that I want to make people encouraged to
donate money to dumpsites, because most families that work
at a lot of dumpsites are poor and try to earn money, because
a lot of job people can be mean and not accept them into all
of the good jobs because they are poor.

Max's Magical Museum Trip

By Max Hindmarsh 11/08/21

Today our whole class went to the Museum to learn more about Hue and Maori instruments, we also did a quiz to find out which instrument sound equals which. I sadly got 1/6 because I was single and only had 1 brain to work with so I am going to start working in partners for a bit and I may even write about it in the quote of the week. After that, we had free time to walk around and look at whatever we wanted to look at. I first went with Brooklyn to go and check the captain's cabin/Star of Canada out and go upstairs. But I couldn't because Sam and Winston were scaring me! I tried looking for my mum's cousin's artwork there because I found it last time there but for some reason, the painting wasn't there, probably because she lives in Aukland and she would have to ship her artwork the whole way to Gisborne. After that, we had a look at Whylies College where an old school was held a long time ago and is known to be the oldest living house in all of Gisborne. After that, we left the Museum and I rated Max's Magical Museum Trip a 9/10.

Yummy Tragedy Soup...

Hi Everyone!

Last week our class got into groups and made some soup, our group planned to make Curry chicken soup and Cass was bringing the main ingredients. But, the next day Cass wasn't there (dun dun dun)! So we had to make a soup with what we had, so we called it the 'Matariki Rainbow/Maxacassakaneaannariki'. It turned out really nice in the end. I tried the Leek and Potato soup, it was yummy! Here are some photos.

How do you think the Waimata River could be a person?

In the past week Mrs Hall (our teacher) gave us a challenge,
the challenge was to make a persuasive argument on the Waimata
River and how it could be a person. I also spoke about the
endangered Mayfly and how it survives, there's also a lot of
information of their habitat and how we need to help it
survive.

Giuseppe Arcimboldo Writing

This is is some information about Giuseppe Arcimboldo. It was really fun doing this because it taught me a lot about this guy. Giuseppe Arcimboldo is a really fun guy to study. Iv'e also always wanted to be doing a biography, so here I am doing one. I spent a long time on this project so hope you enjoy!

Giuseppe Arcimboldo Artwork

Vegetable picture art:

VS Pastel picture art:

Since our class has been studying Giuseppe Arcimboldo, since he was a painter, since he painted vegetables to make pictures, we tried to make a picture like his out of vegetables. First we actually, made a sculpture out of real vegetables. It was really fun because we got to use pastel to draw it. Here's a picture of mine, it's supposed to be a picture of a feast. Which picture do you think is better, my real picture made out of vegetables or my pastel picture??? Hope you enjoy!!

Tawhirimatea's favourite Sport...

Today we made a graph of Tawhirimatea's favourite something Tom, Brooklyn and I were in a group. We chose to ask the class what their favourite sport was. Here are our results. ENJOY!

Term 2 quotes of the week

Here are my Term 2 quotes of the week. Hope you enjoy them!

Waihirere

On Tuesday 10th of May Red house and Yellow house went in a group to Waihirere to learn about some wild kai/food you can collect in the wild. We found some lemon balm and kawakawa on the way, we collected that so that we can make kawakawa tea on our Hobo Stoves. I really liked the kawakawa tea.

My favourite part was boiling the water on our Hobo Stoves to make kawakawa tea. By the way our guides name was 'Sam the trackman'. He was showing us all the stuff that you can eat in the bush, he also told us that if you eat the light green coloured fern, it's going to stuff up your day, (the stuff up your day part to me is meaning that it is like food poisoning and you will die). My favourite food there was the Pekopeko.
